The past is the past, mom's have always been around the kids more. Dad is at work, mom is at home. It would be easy for the kids when asked "who's the leader of this house?" and they answer "MOM!" In biblical standards this is wrong. I was called out by my 7 year old son when he said "mom's the leader of this house" I looked at him and with love said "no, I am". We can't expect our kids to just know this without us actually doing this, leading. My wife doesn't undermind me, she doesn't talk down to me, she shows me nothing but respect (most of the time). She looks to me to lead, but me being, well, me, I tend to slack off and not lead. I have led work crews, I have led in friendships, I have led in ministry, and never got the question "who leads here?". For me this is a challenge and an honor, to lead my family.
When life seems to be rolling along not too bad, a 7 year old comes along and kicks you right in the pills!!! And as leaders we need to be able to handle these things being said and to thank the people who are willing to ask the hard question "who is the leader"
So, thank you Jason, I love you and thank you for asking, now you're grounded from your Playstation, give you time to think about asking such a question.
